Who are Triangle Consulting?
Triangle is the social enterprise behind the Recovery Star, a person centred tool for working with people with mental health issues which co-produces assessment, action planning and measurement of outcomes. The Recovery Star is a version of the Outcomes Star, a suite of over 30 tools for supporting and measuring change when working with people which includes My Mind Star for young people with mental health issues, My Star for children, the Life Star for people with learning difficulties and the Spectrum Star for people on the autistic spectrum.
How has Triangle Consulting improved people’s mental health in the UK?
The Recovery Star and other versions of the Outcomes Star have helped many organisations put their values of person centred, collaborative, outcomes focused working into practice. People tell us that using the tool results in better conversations and a stronger voice for the service user. The tool helps people with mental health issues to understand the small steps that add up to the changes they want in their life and this helps them to make real progress towards their goals.
It was developed in partnership with the Mental Health Providers Forum and recommended by the Department of Health’s New Horizons programme. It has been found to be effective as a tool to support recovery in 15 independent research studies and has been psychometrically validated by Triangle and others.
What has been your greatest achievement to date? And were there any measurable outcomes that accompanied this achievement?
The greatest achievements are the difference that the tools make to people with mental health issues. In the words of one service user“In my early twenties I was sectioned several times and there seemed to be few staff who could offer any kind of tangible help….. Within an hour (of working with the Recovery Star) I felt a sense of gaining perspective on my own life, where I was, where I wanted to be and some ideas of how to achieve those goals.
Feeling grounded I worked hard and made small steps towards a definable recovery. I now work, live with my partner in our own flat that we rent privately and I find myself researching the Recovery Star once more to keep myself well and considering how I can incorporate this model into my work with those in residential care”.
How many organisations/clients currently utilise the service/solution across the UK?
There are currently 690 organisations using the Recovery Star on our online app the Star Online. Over 25,000 service users are currently using the Recovery Star within those organisations and over 60,000 Stars have been completed. As many organisations use the Recovery Star within their own licensed IT systems rather than through the Star Online, the actual number of users is much higher than this. Recovery Star users include including Oxford, Humber and Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trusts, Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership and many voluntary sector service providers.
Is there anything you would like to make delegates aware of ahead of the Mental Health 2019 conference on 26th September?
We will be launching My Mind Star – a new version of the Outcomes Star specially designed for early intervention with young people experiencing mental health issues. We will also be launching a new, improved edition of the Recovery Star for adults with mental health issues.
What do you feel are the key points delegates need to digest when considering a partnership with Triangle Consulting?
Our tools can help organisations to improve, monitor, manage and demonstrate the difference they are making.
