Who are Big White Wall
We are an online mental health service, providing early intervention and prevention support to thousands worldwide. Our active and anonymous community, self-guided courses and creative art therapy offering is available to over 20 million people across the UK, New Zealand and North America struggling with their mental health. , Founded in 2007, we provide a proven solution to long wait times, lack of access, stigma, cost and lack of choice. As a social impact business, we use a proven and established model of low to moderate mental health support, providing a safe and anonymous community of members who use peer to peer support to help each other. Our service is moderated by clinicians (Wall Guides) who are online 24/7, and a 1:1 live therapy service, for people suffering primarily with anxiety, depression, stress and moderate mental health challenges.
How has Big White Wall improved people’s mental health in the UK?
We’ve supported over 140,000 people in the UK, using our peer to peer model and 1-1 online therapy service. In a recent BWW survey, two thirds of members reported never to have talked to anybody else about their issue and over 90% reported feeling better, for example, they experienced reduced isolation, improved coping skills, improved emotional health. Around half of our members declare they used their doctor or A&E less as a result of using BWW.
What has been your greatest achievement to date? And were there any measurable outcomes that accompanied this achievement?
We support large populations at scale with proven prevention and recovery benefits, consistently outperforming NHS recovery targets of 50% for therapy. IAPT services can offer clients increased choice, flexibility and access to mental health treatment by commissioning our online therapy service which provides sessions 7 days a week and outside of working hours (7am-11pm). Our waiting list times are significantly below average with 99% of all BWW clients in treatment within 6 weeks versus the NHS target of 75%.
How many organisations/clients currently utilise the service/solution across the UK?
We have over 100 organisations commissioning BWW for their populations, including the MoD and NHS England who cover access for all serving personnel, veterans and family members within the UK. We work with numerous NHS CCG’s, trusts and local authorities to provide access to BWW on a population scale. We are the number one provider of online mental health support to the student population partnering with over 70 universities and colleges, alongside working with major corporates and health insurers.
Is there anything you would like to make delegates aware of ahead of the Mental Health 2019 conference on 26th September?
