Who are Radiometer?
Radiometer develops, manufactures and markets point of care solutions for blood sampling, blood gas analysis, transcutaneous monitoring, immunoassay testing and related IT management systems under the ABL, AQT, TCM, RADIANCE, AQURE, PICO, CLINITUBES and QUALICHECK brand names
Founded in 1935 and headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark, Radiometer was a pioneer in blood gas testing, introducing the world’s first commercially available blood gas analyser in 1954.
How has Radiometer improved patient safety and care across the health sector?

It’s a matter of pride and humility for us that the information our solutions provide are often the difference between life and death. And this is what drives and unites us as a company.
What has been your greatest achievement to date?

Radiometer has joined the fight against sepsis potentially fatal condition, providing a rapid, acute care testing solution for measuring procalcitonin (PCT), the most sensitive biomarker to aid in the diagnosis – or rule-out – of bacterial sepsis, allowing early detection of sepsis and helping to save lives. Today, PCT complements other testing recommended in sepsis guidelines.
Because of its high sensitivity for most prevalent types of infections, procalcitonin is widely acknowledged as a highly sensitive biomarker to aid in the diagnosis – or rule-out – of bacterial sepsis, with a high negative predictive value above 95 % *
Radiometer have a number of other tests that help clinicians diagnose sepsis such as lactate, CRP, white cell count, creatinine and urea.
How many organisations currently utilise the systems/solution across the UK?

Today, Radiometer’s products and solutions are used in hospitals, clinics and laboratories in over 130 countries, to provide information on the most critical parameters in acute care testing. In fact, five samples are performed every second on a Radiometer analyser somewhere in the world. That’s 300 samples a minute, 18,000 samples an hour, 432,000 samples a day. That’s 157,680,000 samples every year tested on a Radiometer analyser somewhere in the world.
What would you like to tell the attendees in advance of the conference, and when considering a partnership with Radiometer?
Radiometer are dedicated to delivering sepsis detection to the point of care. Although the proclcitonin test is routinely used in Europe it is only just starting to gain momentum in the UK. We believe that sepsis detection can be achieved at the point of care, speeding up diagnosis and ultimately saving lives.
