Who are CGI?

CGI is the 5th largest independent IT and business process services firm in the world with 400 offices servicing over 5,000 clients in 40 countries across the world. Across the UK we have around 6,000 members who bring specific industry knowledge with a broad range of client experience in order to be a true local partner. We differentiate ourselves by our way of working — approachable, flexible and easy to do business with. Our teams have experience in delivering award winning programmes in government, health, space, defence and national security, as well as the commercial sector including banking, insurance, oil and gas, utilities and communications.

In health, we work in partnership with Trusts to deliver a full spectrum of digital solutions, in areas including e-Prescribing, intelligent health and care, mobile apps and secure content sharing.

These provide both care professionals and patients with the right information at the right time, to make informed decisions about care. Through increased collaboration between organisations and within communities, we help local governments and NHS Trusts ensure a joined-up approach across health, social care and local citizen services.

In the UK we have relationships with a number of healthcare bodies including Acute Health, Mental Health and NHS England. We provide application solutions, IT services, outsourcing and mobile apps. Our strategy for the NHS focuses on a set of specific services and solutions including Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Admiration (ePMA).

How has CGI improved patient safety and care across the health sector?

Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (EPMA) systems are proven to improve patient safety by reducing drug prescribing and administration mistakes that could result in medication errors and adverse drug events. These mistakes or errors can be caused by handwriting illegibility, dispensing of similar sounding drugs (usually at incorrect dosages) or administering the correct drug at the wrong dosage. In addition, the CGI and Marand solution can provide instant notification of any drug allergies a patient may have as well as adverse interactions with other drugs the patient may be taking.

How many organisations currently utilise the systems/solution across the UK?

We currently have two projects underway for the supply, implementation, integration and support of the Marand developed OPENeP solution at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust and Musgrove Park Hospital within the Taunton & Somerset NHS Foundation Trust.
