Una Health is an IVD distributor based in Stoke on Trent, representing marketing leading manufacturers for the UK market. Over the next five years, Una Health is focused on delivering key new products to market, as well as developing a complete hot lab solution.
How has Una Health improved patient safety and care across the health sector?
As a small company, we don’t always have the impact of the key UK diagnostics organisation, however our flexible, partnership approach has allowed us to become involved in some very innovative projects. The key project we have worked on so far, is to develop a sore throat patient pathway in community pharmacy using a rapid strep A assay.
This pathway allows the patient to access care, utilising a diagnostics-guided decision on antibiotic therapy. Utilising community pharmacy in this way supports improved GP access, and ensures that antibiotics are only prescribed appropriately in line with AMR guidance. It also provides patients with a more accessible service, speeding up treatment and reducing the risk of the spread of infection.
How many organisations/clients currently utilise the service/solution across the UK?
To date there over 300 pharmacies delivering strep a rapid testing in primary care.
Is there anything you would like to make delegates aware of ahead of the Improving Patient Safety & Care 2020 conference on 13th February?
Una Health’s ambition is to be the most successful point of care diagnostics supplier in the UK, working collaboratively with innovative projects. We want to support the use of POCT in pre-hospital and primary care settings. Our idea to develop a hot lab will see a comprehensive programme of diagnostics (including the world’s first High Sensitivity Troponin assay at the point of care) and ultrasound combined with innovative software and service support. To do this we will collaborate with like-minded IVD suppliers and manufacturers, as well as strategic thinkers within the healthcare industry.
