Who are Right at Home?
Right at Home is a national homecare provider with a network of 60+ locally-owned and operated offices across the UK. Our trusted team of CareGivers deliver the highest quality care and support to adults living in the comfort of their own home, with a minimum of one-hour visits.
Our services are highly personalised, yet flexible to meet the needs of the people we assist. We can provide support on a short-term or long-term basis, ranging from an hourly daily visit through to 24-hour live-in care.
A large proportion of our Clients live with dementia although specialist dementia care is just one of several services we offer.
How has Right at Home improved dementia care in the UK?
Right at Home is at the forefront of being a specialist dementia provider in the care sector. We provide comprehensive dementia care training for all of our CareGivers as part of our induction process and we now have a Dementia Specialist based in the National Office team providing bespoke, expert advice and support to our network of franchisees. Many of our individual franchises run community-based dementia awareness sessions, as well as holding dementia cafes and other activities tailored towards those living with dementia.
Building on the above, is our unique Cognitive support programme, which essentially takes on a refreshing approach to supporting individuals affected by dementia - to assist them in enjoying the things they have always loved to do, for far longer than has previously been deemed possible. Furthermore, this programme has evidenced some fantastic results, demonstrating that this programme is assisting individuals to manage the symptoms of dementia better than ever before.
We are also harnessing the power of technology to promote independence for individuals affected by dementia, allowing them to not only be independent in their own homes, but also within their communities, for example adopting the use of GPS and video technology. We have an innovation and technology committee to research and test the latest products on the market and how these can support our Clients.
In April 2019, we launched our national charity partnership with Alzheimer’s Society where we pledged to raise £20,000 across our network of offices and make 1,000 Dementia Friends within a 12 month period. As of December 2019, we hit our fundraising target and have continued to fundraise and raise of awareness as we know first-hand how devasting the effects of dementia can be on the families we support.
Many of our local offices have been working towards making the areas where they operate dementia friendly communities. We have worked with schools, local businesses, councils and other organisations and one franchise owner has made more than 1,000 Dementia Friends.
In late 2019, several of our offices received training to enable them to bring Love to Move classes to their local community. Love to Move, in association with the British Gymnastics Foundation, is an age and dementia friendly seated gymnastics programme which is specially designed to get older people moving and functioning better. The programme achieves this by carefully integrating the use of gymnastic foundation skills, cognitive stimulation therapy and social interaction activities.
What has been your greatest achievement to date? And were there any measurable outcomes that accompanied this achievement?
Our mission is to become the most trusted homecare provider in the UK. This means providing an outstanding quality of care across all of our offices which meets our Clients’ individual needs. Over the past 18 months, 41% of our CQC inspections have been rated Outstanding thanks to the support and knowledge of our quality and compliance team. This is the highest percentage of Outstanding ratings out of all major homecare companies and we are the only major homecare network to have 98% ‘Good’ or above in its CQC ratings.
These ratings reflect our collective desire to provide the highest quality care and support to our Clients whilst genuinely looking to improve quality of life.
How many organisations/clients currently utilise the service/solution across the UK?
We currently have more than 3,000 Clients across our network of offices in England and Wales who we support to continue living safely and independently in the comfort of their own home. Our wide range of services include dementia care, personal care, companionship, medication reminders, hospital to home and 24-hour live-in care.
Is there anything you would like to make delegates aware of ahead of the Dementia 2020 conference on 28th April?
Right at Home is pursuing a continuous journey of innovation, focusing upon the health and social care integration agenda. For example, we are embarking on a programme to upskill all of our CareGivers to perform basic healthcare monitoring tasks as well as looking to offer a bespoke, individually-designed package of care which incorporates technological solutions matched with more traditional personal care support. It is envisaged that this will provide a comprehensive solution to the totality of people’s future care needs and enable individually focused packages of care to be purchased in advance and altered very flexibly to meet ever-changing needs.
What do you feel are the key points delegates need to digest when considering a partnership with Right at Home?
